Builders deal in a different timescale from interiors. Frames go in early, plywood is used for shuttering and finishing, and doors come last. Timing and moisture are the common problems: timber left on a damp site will warp.
What builders commonly ask for
- Door frames in kapoor wood or teak
- Flush doors by size and count
- Plywood in various grades for fit-out
- Pinewood for battens and temporary works
Site practice that saves money
- Store timber flat, off the ground and under cover
- Fix frames after the masonry has dried enough to avoid swelling
- Order doors close to when they will be hung
- Check sizes against drawings before accepting a delivery
