For a contractor, the material list is the job. A missing line holds up the carpenter, a wrong grade causes rework, and a late delivery pushes the handover. A supplier who reads the BOQ carefully is worth a lot.
What a good BOQ line contains
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Material and grade | MR, BWR and marine are priced differently |
| Brand or "equivalent" | Avoids disputes on substitutions |
| Thickness and size | 18 mm and 19 mm are not interchangeable in a quote |
| Quantity | Give total, and phasing if deliveries are staged |
| Finish code | For laminates and veneers |
| Site and date | Delivery planning |
Material procurement checklist
- Fix the grade for wet and dry areas separately
- Confirm laminate batch consistency per room
- Add wastage to each line
- Include edge banding and fittings in the same list if you want them quoted
- Plan delivery in stages so that materials are not stored on site longer than necessary
