"Wooden door" can mean a solid timber door, a panelled door, or an engineered door with a timber face. Each has its own price, weight and behaviour, so be clear about which you want.
Main types
- Solid timber doors: heavy, strong, and the traditional choice for main entrances
- Panelled doors: frame-and-panel construction with a classic look
- Engineered doors: a core with a timber or veneer face, lighter and often more stable
Where each suits
Main entrances see sun, rain and security demands, so solid timber is common. Internal doors can use lighter options, including flush doors. Bathrooms need moisture-suitable construction.
Specify with care
- Size and thickness
- Type of wood and finish
- Hardware cut-outs you need, such as lock and hinge positions
- Whether it is to fit a new frame or an existing one
