Wood finish laminates print a wood-grain pattern onto the top layer. Better ranges add a matching surface texture, so the sheet feels like wood as well as looking like it. They give you a consistent colour across a whole project, which is hard to get with natural wood.
Laminate or real veneer?
| Wood finish laminate | Natural veneer | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Consistent, repeating pattern | Unique grain, natural variation |
| Maintenance | Wipe clean, no polish | Needs polish or lacquer and care |
| Colour match across a room | Easy, same design code | Needs careful selection and lot matching |
| Cost | Generally lower | Generally higher |
See veneers if you want real wood on the surface.
Using grain direction
Wood patterns have a direction. Most carpenters keep grain vertical on tall doors and horizontal on long panels, and they keep it consistent across adjacent doors. Specify this before cutting, since it affects how many sheets you need.
Pairing
A wood-finish laminate is often paired with a plain matte colour for contrast, or with solid timber details such as handles and frames. For a complete material list, send a BOQ through our bulk order page.
