Material Procurement Checklist for Interior Contractors

A checklist to run before you send a BOQ to a supplier, and again before material is accepted on site.

Before you send the BOQ

  • Every line has a grade, not just "plywood"
  • Thickness and sheet size are stated
  • Brand is named, or "equivalent" is defined
  • Laminate and veneer codes are given
  • Quantity includes wastage
  • Wet-area items are separated and given a water-suitable grade
  • Doors and frames have sizes and counts
  • Edge banding and channels are listed
  • Site address and delivery dates are given

When you compare quotes

  • Same grade and brand in each
  • GST and delivery treated the same way
  • Validity period of each quote
  • Payment terms

On delivery

  • Count and match against the order
  • Check grade and brand markings
  • Measure thickness on sample sheets
  • Check laminate batch and shade
  • Inspect for water damage and edge chips

On site

  • Store boards flat, off the floor, covered
  • Keep laminates flat and away from heat and sun
  • Keep timber stacked with spacers for air
  • Use older stock first

Keep records

Note each delivery date, quantity and any issue. If a problem emerges later, those notes help. Send your BOQ to us through bulk and project orders.

Common questions

How much wastage should a BOQ include?

Typically 10 to 15 percent for boards. Patterned laminates and complicated cuts need more.
