A wardrobe is a tall box with long shelves, so stiffness and flatness matter. Moisture matters too, especially on an external wall or in an older building with damp patches.
Choosing the grade
- Upper-floor, dry bedroom, internal wall: MR is a common choice.
- External wall, ground floor, or visible dampness: BWR is safer.
- Back panels against an outer wall: use an air gap or a moisture barrier regardless of grade.
Thickness by part
| Part | Common practice |
|---|---|
| Sides, top, bottom | 18 mm |
| Fixed shelves | 18 mm; 12 mm for short spans |
| Shutters | 18 mm commonly; lighter for sliding systems as per hardware |
| Back panel | Thin board, 4 to 8 mm |
How much will it need?
A single wardrobe of 6 ft wide, 7 ft high and 2 ft deep can use several sheets once shelves, partitions and shutters are counted. The calculator shows an indicative number. Send us the dimensions for a more careful estimate.
Before you order
- Check the wall for damp and treat it first
- Decide the shutter style (hinged or sliding) before the thickness
- Choose a laminate for inside and outside
