Khemka Sales operates from two places in Kolkata: Strand Road at Nimtala, and Harish Neogi Road at Ultadanga, near Muchi Bazar. The Ultadanga location is near a saw mill, which is a good reminder that timber buying is a physical business: you need to see, touch and measure.
Before you ask for a price
- Decide the use: frame, furniture, panel, shuttering or finishing work.
- Decide the wood, or ask for a recommendation by use.
- Write the sizes. Thickness, width and length in the unit you think in, whether inches, mm or feet.
- Say whether it is for indoors or outdoors.
When you see the timber
- Sight along each piece to spot bends and twists
- Check the ends for splits
- Tap pieces and listen. A dull thud may mean rot.
- Look for sap stains, insect holes and loose knots
- Measure thickness at both ends
Quote clarity
Get the quote in writing, with the unit of measure, whether GST is included, and who bears delivery and unloading. Timber is heavy, so delivery arrangements matter.
